I travel whenever I can. Usually short, two day breaks, here in the U.K. or elsewhere in Europe but, every two years, I take an extended 3-week break and head off to a long haul destination. In 5 days I will be flying to the Philippines to visit my father who moved out there 3 years ago. Then I’ll be heading to Singapore and Malaysia. With flights paid for, hotels booked and a vague idea of what I want to see, there is only one question left……What camera gear do I take? Continue reading “Travelling with Fuji”
5 years BF (Before Fuji)
Today a friend asked me “What did you do before you had all this amazing gear?” This question prompted me to open up my Lightroom catalog and take a look. Continue reading “5 years BF (Before Fuji)”
Christmas with the X100F
I was fortunate enough to have 4 separate Christmas celebrations last year. One at home with just the two of us, one with Claire’s family, one with my mum and step-dad and one with two of my best friends. It was the first Christmas that we have done this. Work usually gets in the way of plans over the holiday season, but last year we were lucky. Continue reading “Christmas with the X100F”
Cinematic Crop
As photographers, we often look to other photographers for inspiration and ideas. However, there are plenty of other sources that can provide us with inspiration. For me one of these is cinema. That wide image on the cinema screen has always felt incredibly absorbing. In photography when we want to go wide we often reach for a wide angle lens, but there is another way. Enter cinematic crop. How I found Fujifilm
Back in 2006, I began working at Flight Centre. The staff discounts gave me the opportunity to travel more than I ever had before. At this point, the only camera I owned was a cheap point and shoot. I decided that if I was going to take photos on my travels, then the only way I could possibly do this was to buy a ‘big camera’. That’s right. I ventured into the world of entry-level DSLR’s. Favourite photo of 2017
I am writing this while we are driving back home to London having just spent a fantastic evening with some of our best friends. Don’t worry, I’m not actually driving. My partner is.
Naturally, as the year draws to a close, we have been passing the time by talking about all the fantastic things that have happened this year. The places we have been. The good times we have shared. The things we have achieved together and the things we have accomplished as individuals. It hasn’t all been glitter and sparkles, nothing ever is. But, it’s been pretty damn good. Why photography?
“So, what made you get into photography?” It is the question we have all been asked at some point. Often repeatedly. It is a question we have probably all asked ourselves. It is something most of us have on our ‘about me’ page on our website. I have always wanted to reply to this question with a cute story. You know the one. Continue reading “Why photography?”
I spent more time buying a camera than I did buying a house.
6 years ago my girlfriend and I bought a house. We knew absolutely nothing about buying a house. I had a vague idea of the process, but that was about it. One weekend we cleared our schedules and set out to view some places. The first two were horrific. The third place looked like it had once hosted the party of the century, but no one had ever bothered to clear up afterwards. Continue reading “I spent more time buying a camera than I did buying a house.”
Does the world need another photography blog?
Well, the answer is, probably not. So why did I bother to create one? I’ve been pondering that very question as I signed up for WordPress today. On some level, if I am honest with myself, there is a self-indulgent element to it. Deep down we all seek appreciation for what we do. Continue reading “Does the world need another photography blog?”
